Version 1.2 fixed a problem with the unlimited version of 1.1. I recommend that all users upgrade to this version.
Version 1.1
This is the second release of Finder 7 Menus! In this version, Finder 7 Menus! will check to make sure that a command key you are trying to add is not already in the menus. That way, you’ll never make the mistake of using the same key for two different menu items, which can result in unpredictable behavior. Please note that version 1.1 does not check to make sure that the Finder it is working on is correct. It assumes that there are no duplicates, and only checks to see if the keys you add are already there. If you are working on a fresh copy of the Finder, you’ll never have a problem. If you are working on a Finder which has been edited with version 1.0 of Finder 7 Menus! or ResEdit, it is possible that there are duplicate command keys.
I’ve also changed the encryption method. The password is now entered from within the program. There are two advantages to this method. One, it reduces the size of the archive. Two, no external program is required as was in version 1.0.
Finder 7 Menus! and System 7!
Finder 7 Menus! was written exclusively for use with the Finder in System 7. It will not work with the Finder in System 6. That’s good news for Apple’s $99 Personal Upgrade Kits! Buy Apple Stock Now! I’d suggest that you buy Insanely Great Software stock, but I can’t for two reasons. First of all, Insanely Great Software is not a public company, and no one in their right mind would buy stock in such a small company anyway. And more importantly, the guys at the S.E.C. wouldn’t approve!
Contents of the Finder 7 Menus! Package
• The Finder 7 Menus! Application is, of course, the primary item in the package. Instructions for using it come a bit later in this file.
• The “Finder 7 Menus! READ ME!” file is this document.
• The “Blurbs ƒ” folder contains information about other programs available from Insanely Great Software.
• The “Finder 7 Menus! Order Form” is what you’ll use when you register your copy of the program. Just print it out and send it in, along with your check or money order. It’s a text file, and can be read and printed with TeachText or most other word processors.

You may freely distribute this version of Finder 7 Menus! to individuals or user groups as long as you include all the files that are listed above without any changes. Upgrade and Ordering Information
Until you register, Finder 7 Menus! will only allow you to use the first 11 letters of the alphabet as command keys in the Finder menus. When you upgrade, you will be able to use the entire alphabet, all 26 letters!
You can try out Finder 7 Menus! for 30 days. After that time, you must either upgrade to the commercial version—for a mere $10.00—or you must destroy all copies of Finder 7 Menus! that you possess, including any related files such as this documentation.

The complete Pascal source code to Finder 7 Menus! is now available. The Finder 7 Menus! Source Code, along with Finder 7 Menus! registration, is now only $25! That’s only an additional $15 for the source code. I’m sure that all programmers will be interested in learning how Finder 7 Menus! really works.
Using Finder 7 Menus!: An Example
As a demonstration, let’s assign Command Key B to the Shut Down menu item in the Special Menu.
1) Make a copy of the Finder from your System Folder. One way to do this is to hold down the option key while dragging the Finder out of your System Folder.
2) Double Click on the Finder 7 Menus! icon to launch the program.
3) Select the Open a Finder… menu item from the Control menu.
4) Find the Finder that you just copied and open it. Do not attempt to open the Finder that is in your System Folder. Nothing bad will happen. You will just have to repeat step 3 if you select the one in your System Folder.
5) Go to the Special Menu and select Shut Down.
6) You should see a dialog box. Type in a “B” (without the quotes) in the text box.
7) Press OK.
8) Choose Quit from the Control Menu..
9) Now, move the Finder that is currently in your System Folder into another folder for temporary safe-keeping. Just make sure that it is not in the System Folder and that it is not in the same place that the new Finder you were working on is.
10) Put the new Finder that you created into your System Folder.
11) Reboot. You should see the new command-key B in the Special menu. Now you can delete your old Finder if you’d like, since it isn’t necessary anymore.

The Control Menu:
Open a Finder… - This option lets you open a Finder.
Close the open Finder - This option lets you close the current Finder so that you can open another one. It is not necessary to use this option if you do not plan to open a different Finder in the same session.
Quit - Quits Finder 7 Menus!
The File, Edit, and Special Menus:
To change one of the Command-Keys, add one, or delete one, simply select the menu item that you want changed.
The Dialog Box:
You’ll then see a dialog box which allows you to make the actual change. The first letter in the text box is considered the Command-Key Letter, so make sure you only type one letter, or if you type more, that the first one is the one that you want. If you want to delete a Command-Key letter from the menu item, press the Clear Key option. The text box wil lnow say “No Key.” If you do not type anything in that box and press OK, the Command-Key will be removed. Note that simply pressing the space bar will not remove a Command-Key. The Clear Key button has to be pressed.
Pressing OK will make the changes. Pressing Cancel will not make the changes.
